yoga class descriptions

Our classes facilitate the development of your yoga practice through a firm foundation of yoga postures, posture modifications, and breathing techniques. Students are encouraged to work at a pace that fits their individual needs and is appropriate for their level of ability.

You will develop strength and balance, increase flexibility and lung capacity, enhance immune functions, and improve concentration; all while attaining a healthy state of being. Physical and emotional health is supported through a regular yoga practice, patience, and proper instruction in the personal environment of the Yoga Path.

All ages and levels of experience are welcome!

Hatha Yoga is the oldest form of yoga known and was originally practiced thousands of years ago by those who wished to live a long and healthy life. Through the practice of Hatha Yoga, the body becomes more pure, healthier and stronger, while the quality of concentration and meditation improve significantly.

After a Hatha Yoga session, you can expect to feel relaxed, rejuvenated and peaceful.

In our classes, the movements of the body (postures) are linked with yogic breathing; techniques that cleanse the body and direct energy mentally. Equal attention is given to the steadiness and comfort of the posture and the cultivation of the yogic breath, to allow the construction of a carefully balanced yoga practice.

Learning to bring balance to your yoga practice will make it possible to fully experience, understand and appreciate the life giving qualities that yoga has to offer.

Level I is for beginners. Level I-II is for those advancing in their practice.

Hatha Yoga Basics is for all ages and levels of experience. By learning the basics of Hatha Yoga, you develop a true understanding of yoga postures and breathing techniques to build a firm foundation for your practice. This class helps experienced practitioners take their yoga practice to a deeper understanding.

Morning Hatha Yoga postures and breathing techniques is a loving way to wake up and begin your day! The yoga postures are specifically designed to warm-up, restore and rebalance your body, while practicing deep breathing promotes a relaxed mind to become centered and focused. It is a class for all levels of coordination and physical ability.

Yoga Health / Back Pain is a series of yoga postures and stretches developed by Maria van der Meij, owner and instructor of the Yoga Path, for the alleviation of back pain caused by spinal misalignments and injuries of the deep back muscles and inter-vertebral discs.

Maria suffered from severe back pain and muscle stiffness as a young child and into her early 20's. By turning to the practice of Hatha Yoga on a daily basis, she discovered it was more effective than any other form of exercise for the treatment of her back pain.

Hatha Yoga specifically tailored to alleviate back pain, when practiced regularly, increases blood flow to the nerves and tissues that support the spine; promotes good posture and proper alignment of the vertebrae; strengthens the deep muscles of the back that surround and support the spine and allows you to be more conscious of movements that can hurt your back. Yogic breathing techniques also relieve nerve and muscle tension and promote health and relaxation in the mind and body.

Yoga for Kids is a fun way for kids to relieve stress and help bring about peace and relaxation. In addition, yoga helps children with body-awareness, discipline, flexibility, and coordination.

In this class, the child will learn the fundamental principles of yoga that can be applied to other aspects of the child's life. Yoga instills confidence and helps children stay calm and centered through challenging experiences. Our classes foster bonding among the children and are a great way for your child to direct their energy in a positive way. Yoga for Kids is for ages 6 to 12.
