What is Shiatsu?
Shiatsu is a combination of Japanese massage
techniques in which finger or palm pressure is applied to the acupressure
points along the body's energy pathways and Western methods of soft tissue
manipulation.
This form of massage will help to relieve stress and relax the nervous system,
which controls and coordinates all organs and structures of the human body.
It will align the most critical part of the nervous system, the spinal column.
Shiatsu will increase circulation of the blood and balance the flow of vital
energy to allow the body to readjust itself and healing to take place.
This ancient healing method is based on traditional Chinese Medical Theory,
a concept that the internal systems of the body should be well governed and the
relations of organs harmonize with each other and the external environment.
The goal of external efforts should be focused on assisting the normal self-healing
function of the body.
With regular treatments Shiatsu will strengthen the immune system to prevent
sickness and disease and truly becomes a form of preventative health care.
What makes Shiatsu different from a traditional massage?
A traditional massage usually modeled after Swedish massage, involves lying
on a table, without clothing, and being rubbed down with oil. Shiatsu is practiced on
a comfortable futon mat on the floor and does not require oils. It is a hands-on
therapy that uses finger and thumb pressure on the acupressure points on the body
as well as assisted stretches and soft tissue manipulation.
A Shiatsu massage allows the body and mind
to enter into a state of deep relaxation to help relieve physical and mental
discomforts and stress while reducing muscle tension. The result of a Shiatsu
massage is a sense of physical, emotional, and mental well-being.

Preparing for your Shiatsu
Loose fitting, comfortable clothing is best for your session. Clothing made of
natural fibers works the best. Any jewelry should be taken off. For the most relaxing
experience it is recommended that the client bathe or shower prior to their Shiatsu
since this will promote circulation and help relax the body.
Ayurvedic Acupressure
Ayurveda is a 5000-year old holistic healing system from India, which literally means
"knowledge or science of life." The method of Ayurveda is to seek the source of a
problem and treat the whole person body, mind, senses, emotions and spirit.
Ayurvedic Acupressure is based on the principle of Ayurveda and acupressure,
the most ancient technique used for pain relief. This non-invasive approach to healing
involves the application of pressure to specific acupressure points on the hands and
feet.
Regular treatments will help to promote regeneration of tissues and organs, stimulate
blood circulation, nerves and lymph circulatory system, improve skin tone, strengthen
the lungs and regulate the digestive system.
Ayurvedic Acupressure reawakens and helps restore health and balance to the internal
functioning of the body.
